DRDO develops indoor antenna test range facility

DRDO LogoNew Delhi, Jan. 12 : The Defence Avionics Research Establishment, a premier laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which is based in Bangalore, has developed an indoor Antenna Test Range facility to characterize both the Electronic Support Measure [ESM] and Electronic Counter Measure [ECM] antennas, which are first of its kind in India.

A DRDO release said M. Natarajan, Scientific Advisor to the Defence MInister, inaugurated the facility today in the presence of Dr. Prahlada, Chief Controller, DRDO and Dr. U. K Revanker, Director, DARE, Bangalore.

This unique facility covers a wide range of frequencies for pattern characterisation with a unique capability to measure direction finding accuracy.

It is also capable of characterizing antennas for radiation patterns, beam peak, beam with width and directivity.

The chamber is completely tested by DARE experts and is now fully operational. Keeping in mind the signals that would be received and transmitted by electronic warning antennas similar to sun rays, the facility is named as UDAYAKIRAN.

It may be recalled here that a few days ago this lab had successfully developed upgradation of avionics system for Mig-27 aircrafts indegeneousely. (ANI)
