Dog shows gaining popularity in Punjab

Ludhiana, Dec 25 : Dog race events at Ludhiana Dog Showwith canine participants from various countries have emerged as a hot favourite among people in Punjab.

The racing season normally spans from October to March. It has attracted International interest with the participation from non resident Indians and people from the neighbouring countries. They include imported pedigree from countries like Canada, America and Ireland.

The two-day event which has just concluded, saw over one hundred and twenty dogs participating in different events, which included two dogs from Pakistan, thirty from Ireland and five from Australia.

"I have come here just to participate in the races. We have bought our dogs from foreign countries. My dog is one and half years old, it has already won the 1st round. Let’s see what happens in the second round," said, Mohd. Salim, a dog owner from Pakistan.

"I love racing Greyhounds and I bring one along with me whenever I visit India. I also keep Greyhounds in London, but it's more fun to run Greyhounds here in Punjab itself. There are other people who bring Greyhounds from Canada and America also to race here," said Inderjeet Singh, a dog owner from United Kingdom.

The winning dog of this year's event will get Rupees. 51,000, while the first and the second runners up will get Rupees. 31,000 and Rupees 21,000 each. (ANI)
