A decline was registered by the crime graph in the national capital compared to 2007. However, the murder cases and motorvehicle theft has increased, whereas there was fall in rape cases.

Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal informed at Delhi Police's annual press conference in New Delhi on Friday, The capital recorded a decline in registration of IPC cases with 46,414 last year as against 53,244 in 2007, a decrease of 1,881 cases.

He told, “The crime rate has recorded a 12.82 per cent decline this year if you compare it with the figures of 2007. There has been a decline of 12.13 per cent in heinous crimes.” It is observed that there has been an increase of 51 murder cases this year compared to last year.

Dadwal said, “The capital's sleuths solved 82 per cent of murder cases this year as against 77.94 per cent in 2007.”Police has arrested 891 people for murders out of which 95% were novices whereas 93 % were uneducated and school dropouts.

It would be very shocking to know that most of the killers were below the age of 25 years, accounting for 57 per cent of the total arrested. It is also disturbing to note that there has been a tremendous increase in the number of vehicles stolen from the national capital this year, with last year registering an increase of 1,754 thefts, touching the figure of 9,895.

However last year only 1,934 vehicles were recovered. But there is a decline of the number of rape cases registered a 22.03 %. There were 453 such cases last year compared to 581 in 2007.
