DeCA Recalls Beef
According to a DeCA news release, the Defense Commissary Agency has called back a few of its frozen ground beef products accompanying a U.S. Department of Agriculture notice of possible E. coli contamination.

The group carries two of the recalled products prepared by Topps Meat Company LLC:

Topps 100% Pure Ground Beef Hamburgers, 12 quarter pounders, 3-pound boxes. Each box bears a sell-by date of June 22, 2008; July 12, 2008; or July 23, 2008.

Topps 100% Pure Ground Beef Hamburgers, 20 quarter pounders, 5-pound boxes. Each box bears a sell-by date of June 22, 2008; July 12, 2008 or July 23, 2008.

According to a DeCA report, commissary customers can return the meat, with tag, to the store for a full repayment.

E. coli is a possibly lethal bacterium, which can result in bloody diarrhea and dehydration. Young children, elders and people with compromised immune systems are the most allergic to food-borne sickness.

According to The Associated Press a half-dozen people in New York fell sick due to E. coli-contaminated frozen hamburger.
