DC Design to showcase new super-car at 2012 Auto Expo
DC Design, India's automotive design powerhouse, is planning to showcase a super-car at the upcoming 2012 Auto Expo n New Delhi.
The car, which is described as India's first own super-car, will be unveiled by film star Amitabh Bachchan at the country's biggest auto show. The vehicle is designed and built by a group headed by DC Design. It will be a low-volume offering and will be manufactured at the company's facility in Pune, Maharashtra.
The company is expected to begin deliveries of the car by the end of 2013 following the requisite homologation process. Like other super-cars, the engine of the car will be located behind the driver, between the two axles.
The car is beelived to be powered by a V6 petrol engine sourced from Honda with turbo charge offering an output of 400 bhp. The vehicle will weight 1,560 kg and will have a footprint comparable to that of Lamborghini Murcielago.
Dilip Chhabria, the promoter of DC Design said, "With this car, we are making the transformation from a design house to a production house. It will offer the looks, feel, dimensions, quality and fit and finish comparable to super-cars from Lamborghini and Ferrari, minus the horsepower."
The company is planning to produce 300 units in the first year and increase production to 3,000 units later. The car is expected to be priced at about Rs 30 lakh, according to Mr. Chhabria.
