Chairman of Wipro Corp Mr. Azim Premji has been awarded with the Dataquest’s Lifetime Achievement Award of the year. He has been honored with the prestigious award for his vision, which has helped Indian IT industry to reach new heights.
Mr. Pradeep Gupta, Dataquest publisher and CyberMedia chairman, and Mr. Saurabh Srivastava, Chairman Emeritus of TiE Delhi, have presented the award to Azim Premji during an award function organized at the Taj Palace Hotel on Thursday.
On the occasion, Premji said that the lifetime achievement award didn't mean the end of his part at Wipro.
The IT sector of India endowed with many outstanding contributions by Premji and his associates. He was the person who had followed recommendations of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore to build Intel's 16-bit 8086 architecture.
Moreover, the 'Lab-on-Hire' concept of Wipro had enabled companies like Intel, Motorola, Cisco and Sun to have the services of Indian engineers.
Mr. Premji said that he was initially confused whether to accept the award or not, as these awards are considered as the end of one’s professional carrier. But he had to accept the award for those 100 thousand people who have worked for Wipro. The award actually goes to them.
