‘Dasvidaniya’ - a film that “celebrates death”

‘Dasvidaniya’ - a film that “celebrates death”A small budget film, 'Dasvidaniya' - Russian for goodbye - has debutant director Shashant Shah, and co-producer Guneet Monga joining the bandwagon of mainstream commercial, though not conventional, cinema.

The Friday release, starringVinay Pathak, Rajat Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla, Ranvir Shorey and Neha Dhupia, 'Dasvidaniya' is a bittersweet story about a man who refused to die before he had learnt to live.

Amar Kaul (Vinay Pathak) is a 37-year old unmarried man who works in a pharmaceutical company, and leads a very commonplace life. His things-to-do-list, comprising simple and boring things, is what helps him lead a routine life.

However, one day his boring existence goes for topspin, when he discovers that he has stomach-cancer at the last stage, and has barely three months to live. Thereon begins a journey of a lifetime for Amar Kaul - he sets out to accomplish everything on his list of '10 things to do' before he dies. It is this list which makes his life worthwhile before it actually ends.

Though the film virtually revolves around Amar Kaul, the others in the cast have played their parts exceptionally well too. Neha Dhupia lights up the screen as Kaul's first love.

Despite the fact that the film, written by Arshad Sayed, is a bit 'heavy' on emotions, it has a happy ending! The story of this "feel good" factor film touches the heart, and is all about living life to its fullest. Treading on an untrodden path, 'Dasvidaniya' is a film that "celebrates death" with Amar Kaul.
