Consumer Reports no more Recommends Laundry Pods
Liquid detergent pods can prove quite dangerous to children, warned Consumer Reports. It has stopped recommending the product, which looks like candy to children. Its exposure can cause severe intoxication in children.
When liquid detergent pods were introduced, they were considered to be quite an easy solution to liquid and powder detergents. Now, it is being found that the pods that look like candy to children can put them danger.
Detergent pods look quite colorful and are quite small in size. They generally come in transparent packs and bright colored detergent can be seen in the pack. Many pods come up with fabric softener and these packs look even more appealing.
These pods prove extremely dangerous to children. They could be considered as candy and children can pick them up and open them the way they open candy, which means they can put candy in their mouths and start biting.
Its outer layer is quite sensitive and can open easily. Therefore, there are chances that children can swallow a large amount of it, which could prove life threatening. Owing to which Consumer Reports has eliminated such types of products from its list of recommended products.
It has been suggested that parents having young children should avoid using these products until their children get old enough to know that they are dangerous. A draft proposal is scheduled for vote this week, which demands for many important changes that are already active in Europe.
The changes include adding bitter agent to give them a bad taste and make the packing quite hard and slower dissolve rate. All these factors will reduce chances of the pods to be opened by children.
