RJio to launch 4G in 2015 entailing investment of Rs 70,000 crore

Reliance-Jio-InfocommMumbai: Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd on Wednesday said it will commercially launch 4G services in 2015, entailing investments of Rs 70,000 crore.

"The year 2015 will see the phased launch of Reliance Jio across India... The fruits of the tremendous value created by this Rs 70,000 crore initiative would start to flow," Reliance Industries Ltd Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani said in his address to shareholders.

RIL promoted RJIL holds pan-India broadband wireless access (BWA) spectrum that can be used for 4G services. The company had acquired it through auction for Rs 12,847.77.

RJio network progress hit by not getting right-of-way

Reliance-Jio-InfocommKolkata: Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecom arm of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Group, is beset with the problem of not getting right-of-way to lay underground cables in various parts of the country hitting progress in network expansion.

"Getting right-of-way in several parts of the country is becoming a problem for Reliance Jio. But things will be sorted out as early as possible," a company official told PTI on condition of anonymity.

Other companies were also facing similar problems, he said adding "rules for getting right-of-way vary from place to place".

Reliance Jio, Tower Vision sign tower infrastructure sharing pact

Reliance-JioNew Delhi, May 15 : Jio Infocomm and Tower Vision India, a telecom tower company, have entered into a master service agreement for tower sharing, a company statement said here Thursday.

Reliance Jio, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, holds a pan-India unified licence. With this agreement, Reliance Jio would utilise the telecom tower infrastructure of Tower Vision to launch its services across the country. Tower Vision has a portfolio of 8,400 telecom towers in India.

Under a Master Services Agreement, Reliance Jio will use Viom Networks' Pan India Passive telecom infrastructure having a footprint of over 42,000 telecom towers.

"This agreement is in line with our mission of a Pan India launch spanning next-generation voice and data services and leveraging existing telecom infrastructure," said Sanjay Mashruwala, Managing Director, Reliance Jio.

Reliance Jio’s Innovation Head Arvind Rao resignsReliance Jio Infocomm's head of innovation Arvind Rao has reportedly left the company. Mr. Rao had joined Mukesh Ambani-led RIL in November 2012.

Mr. Rao, who was responsible for Reliance Jio's content strategy, has left the company at a time when it is preparing to launch high-speed voice and data service on mobile.

The reason behind Mr. Rao's abrupt departure could not be ascertained. A spokesperson for the company declined to comment on the report. However, a former colleague of Mr. Rao confirmed his departure.

Reliance Jio said in a statement, "Unilateral increase in SUC for BWA spectrum from 1 per cent to 3 per cent will be illegal. The government may take appropriate decisions on SUC for the forthcoming auctions but without altering the present regime."

Reliance Jio takes forward 4G plans in Bengal

The company is scheduled to start work within a month in areas under the KMC, using the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and microtrenching technology to lay optical fibre cables in furtherance of the 4G technology.

It also said the proceeds from securitisation have been utilised to repay high cost rupee debt, resulting in significant interest cost savings for the company.

The securitisation has been completed with Indian and foreign banks.
