Commandos for West Bengal stations
West Bengal Govt. Monday decided to deploy police commandos at major railway stations across the state in the wake of the terror attacks in Mumbai.
This was decided in a high-level meeting led by state Home Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty.
Commandos will be deployed in Sealdah and Howrah stations as well as in Kharagpur station and in New Jalpaiguri in north Bengal.
"This initiative has been taken to strengthen the security surveillance at vital railway terminals across the state," West Bengal Additional Director General of Police (Railways) Dilip Mitra said at the state secretariat Writers' Buildings.
The police commissioner earlier said that following the Mumbai terror strikes Kolkata Police would take all necessary steps to tighten security in the state capital.
