Citigroup announces names of new CEOs
Citigroup Inc has announced the name of former World Bank managing director Shengman Zhang as the Chairman, while Stephen Bird and Shirish Apte as joint chief executives of Asia-Pacific operations of group.
The announcement is in line with Citi's exercise to strengthen its global business grappled with recession. Similarly, the US-based bank is set to appoint Bill Mills and Alberto Verme as joint chief executives of its Europe, the Middle East and African operations.
Stephen Bird, who was earlier chief executive for North Asia and head of consumer banking and global cards for Asia-Pacific, will lead group's Northern Asia operations, while Shirish Apte will be responsible for South Asian operations of the bank. Apte earlier served the operations of the Central and Eastern European region as the chief executive of the bank.
Meanwhile, the bank has also been working on strategies to mitigate the impact of global slowdown on its business, and may announce tough monetary operations to strengthen the financial health of the world's leading bank.
