UP Chief Minister asks BHEL to complete Anpara-D by June next yearConcerned over the rising costs of the Anpara-D project, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has asked government-run Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) to complete and commission the project by June 2013.

The government of Utter Pradesh had signed the contract for the project with BHEL in 2006, but the company has so far made only one unit of the project operational.

In a recently held meeting with the senior BHE officials, Akhilesh pointed out that excessive delay in implementation of the project led to escalating interest and that it was taking a toll on the project's cost as well as power production.

The CM said, "Interest was rising due to delay in completion of the projects which would directly affect their cost and power generation and in turn affect the development of the state."

BHEL officials assured Akhilesh that all pending works would be implemented fast and effectively within the predetermined deadlines.

The 1,000-MW Anpara D thermal project in Sonbhadra district is expected to play an important role in helping Utter Pradesh arresting the increasing power crisis.

The Central Public Sector Unit BHEL's offer to construct the boiler, turbine and generator of the Anpara D project was approved by the Mayawati government.
