CBI seeks SC nod to share coal scam information with government

CBI seeks SC nod to share coal scam information with governmentThe Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has requested the Supreme Court to allow it to share coal scam information with appropriate government agencies or officials.

In May, the apex court had restrained the investigation agency from sharing any information about the coal block allocation scam investigation with anyone any government agency or officials.

But the CBI approached the apex court on Monday, seeking modifications in the concerned order. The agency claimed that the ban would hamper its probe into the matter.

CBI said in its application, "It is mandatory for us to get proper sanctions from the government, so we have to share evidence with the department concerned to obtain the same. Imposing a blanket ban on us will hamper our investigations."

The investigation agency also requested the Supreme Court to lift the restrictions imposed on it from making any change in its 33-member investigation team.

The application was submitted along with its status report that was filed in a sealed envelope. The agency gave status of thirteen FIRs and three Preliminary Enquiries to the apex court.

As per the Comptroller & Auditor General's (CAG) estimate, irregularities in the allocation of coal blocks robbed the national exchequer of Rs 1.86 lakh crore.
