Catholic Church Apologizes Women for Forced Adoption
In Australia, 50 years back, more than 150,000 women lost their babies as they were forcefully taken by some of the adoption agencies and churches.
In this regard, on Monday, the head of healthcare arm of the Catholic Church had apologized to all those victims of forced adoption practices. Among those 150,000 unlucky women, Juliette Clough is one. It was in 1970, when this 16-year-old mother was strapped to the bed and her baby boy was snatched from her at a Catholic-run hospital in Newcastle.
As shared by Ms. Clough, in a statement to a Senate inquiry into forced adoptions, "You weren't allowed to see him or touch him, anything like that, or hold him and it was just like a piece of my soul had died, and it's still dead. I constantly think and imagine what his life would be like, whether he married and whether I have any grandchildren".
CEO Martin Laverty came to know about such deadly happenings in June this year and with the help of this Senate inquiry, he aims to express his sorrow and regret to all those victims who had their newborns forcibly removed few years back.
He hopes and wishes if this effort of him could bring out a feel of healing and comfort to all of them.
