Cash-for-query scam: former MPs get non-bailable warrants

New Delhi, Oct 14 : A city court Wednesday issued non-bailable warrants (NBWs) against four former MPs for not appearing before it in a case relating to the cash-for-query scam of 2005.

The special judge issued NBWs against Narendra Kumar Kushwaha, Lal Chandra Kol, Manoj Kumar and Suresh Chandel besides alleged middleman Vijay Kumar Phogat, and asked them to appear before his court on Oct 28, when their bail plea will be decided.

Meanwhile, former MPs Chhattrapal Singh Lodh, Y. G. Mahajan, Ram Sewak Singh and Chandra Pratap Singh, who are also listed as accused in the case, appeared before the court and moved bail applications in view of the charge sheets filed against them.

The court, on the other hand, allowed exemption applications of Anna Saheb M. K. P. Patil due to his engagement in Maharashtra elections and two journalists.

Delhi Police had filed charge sheets against the former MPs for misusing their office as they were caught on camera in 2005 seeking money for asking questions in parliament.

Besides the ex-MPs, two journalists of web portal cobrapost. com, Aniruddha Bahal and Suhasini Raj, who were also made accused in the case for abetting the offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act, were granted exemption from appearance by the court in view of an order of the Delhi High Court.(IANS)
