California man faces smuggling prohibited weapons into Canada

California man faces smuggling prohibited weapons into CanadaOfficials have said that a California man faces smuggling charges after allegedly attempting to bring a personal cache of prohibited weapons into Ontario, Canada.

Quebec Media Incorporated reported on Monday that Robert Frost, 42, was moving to Ottawa legally to be with his wife and allegedly mailed the weapons concealed in two containers of household goods from California.

Officials have said that the Canada Border Services Agency intercepted the shipment May 11 and seized 116 weapons, including an A-15 semi-automatic assault rifle, nunchuks, butterfly knives and throwing stars.

There was no evidence the discovered weapons were intended for illegal use, and they said they believe the weapons were part of a personal collection, Police said.

Frost was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday to face charges of failing to report goods, making false statements and smuggling under the Customs Act.

Quebec Media further said that he is also charged with a criminal code violation regarding importing controlled weapons. (With inputs from Agencies)
