BYD officially launches e-Platform 3.0 for next-generation EVs of varying sizes

BYD, a Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer headquartered in Shenzhen City of Guangdong province, has officially launched its all-new e-platform 3.0 for the next-generation electric cars of varying sizes. According to the Chinese manufacturer’s claims, the BYD e-platform 3.0 will allow the development of electric cars with a range of more than 1,000 km or 622 miles on a single charge, dual-motor, all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrain with 0-100 km/h acceleration in 2.9 seconds, and revolutionary fast charging rate of 150 km or 93 miles in merely 5 minutes.

BYD will use the innovative platform with outstanding advantages in intelligence, efficiency, safety etc. not only in its own vehicles but also offer it to other manufacturers to help them next-generation EVs of various sizes.

Announcing the official launch of the new platform, BYD said, “With outstanding advantages in intelligence, efficiency, safety, and aesthetics, the e-platform 3.0 aims to promote NEVs’ performance in safety and low-temperature driving range as well as improving intelligent driving experiences, to build more efficient and safer new intelligent EVs.”

Therefore, the new e-platform will cover EVs of varying kinds ranging in size from small to large. The platform will be open to other manufacturers in the automobile industry to facilitate the development of next-generation intelligent EVs.

BYD has already used the innovative platform in the all-electric Dolphin model that is entering the market in China and soon the company will introduce more models of varying sizes ranging from small to large.

Highlights of the BYD e-platform 3.0 includes the company’s self-developed EV operating system 9OS), which makes it expandable, upgradeable, and wholly open to developers). It also promises lower energy consumption, a new heat pump technology as standard, up to 20% longer winter cruising range, a newly upgraded 8-in-1 module for the drive system, increased efficiency, 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration in less than 3 seconds, all-wheel drivetrain, an 800 V battery system offering a cruising range of more than 1,000 km (622 miles). BYD's Blade Battery (lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry in a cell-to-pack system) comes as standard.

Wider wheelbase, shorter front overhangs, and lower center of gravity, more space, and a drag coefficient as low as 0.21” are other highlights of the new e-platform.

The Chinese manufacturer’s recently unveiled all-electric BYD Ocean-X concept is based on the e-platform 3.0. It is a mid-size sporty electric sedan with high performance. However, the manufacturer has revealed nothing about a production version of the concept.
