Excel Infoways IPO subscribed 1.97 times  Mumbai-headquartered Excel Infoways initial public offer (IPO) finally ended on Friday, 17 July 2009 with subscription of 1.97 times, receiving bids for 1.11 crore shares as against 56.67 lakh shares on offer.

The IPO was subscribed 1.9 times, with retail investor's portion getting subscribed 2.64 times. The portion reserved for non-institutional investors was subscribed 5.30 times. The qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) portion was subscribed 0.48 times.

The price band of the issue, which opened on 14 July 2009, has been fixed at Rs 80-85 a share.

3i Infotech 3i Infotech, a global provider of IT solutions and one of India's largest product companies, has announced the setting up of 3i Infotech's BPO subsidiary, as part of its go-to-market approach for this important business segment.

The company has informed that, from now all its BPO business would be managed through 3i Infotech's wholly owned BPO subsidiary.

The company claims that, during the financial year 2008-2009, BPO services emerged as a very important component in 3i Infotech's suite of offerings worldwide, contributing one-third of revenues of Rs 2300 crore.

TCS opens development centre at Lucknow

TCSA new development centre has been unveiled by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) at TCS Awdh Park in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

It has been learnt that after the TCS facility in Noida, with 1,500 seats, Awdh Park is the second-largest IT establishment in UP, which is spread over three acres of land.

S Ramadorai, chief executive and managing director, TCS, expressed, "TCS' expanded footprint in Lucknow should also encourage more investments in the city to help realize its shared dream of becoming an IT-BPO."

Australia-based UCMS Group to be bought by Aegis for Rs 203 croreA deal was signed Friday by Aegis Ltd., Essar Group's backoffice unit, also known as Aegis BPO with the aim to purchase Australia's UCMS Group Ltd., a business process outsourcing services provider, for about $54 million in cash.

It was revealed by Aegis BPO and UCMS Group via a joint statement that a sum of Australian $0.98 a share in cash would be paid by Aegis, through its affiliate Aegis BPO Services Australia Pty Ltd, for UCMS' shares - a premium of 133% over the May 14 closing price of A $0.42.

Emirates airline has announced that it has inked a five-year pact with British Telecom UAE .

Under the agreement, the airline will set up a virtualised infrastructure that will link together seven contact centres based in Manchester, New York, Melbourne, Mumbai and Dubai, as well as nine other town office locations.

The airline authorities said that the deal will allow them to offer additional services to passengers and agents, plus cut operating costs and improve efficiency.

Cognizant posts 11 per cent rise in net income for Q1US-based information technology firm, Cognizant Technology Solutions Corporation, having a large network of BPO’s in India, reported 11 per cent increase in its net profit for the quarter ended March 31, 2009. Its revenue rose 16 per cent to $746 million during the quarter as compared to its revenue in the same period last year.

Francisco D'Souza, President and CEO of Cognizant, said, "We are pleased with our performance during the first quarter which exceeded our revenue guidance and demonstrated Cognizant's continued ability to outperform the industry."

The proposed US visa curbs to affect Indian IT firms; evoke criticism

IT SectorThe bill introduced by US Senators Mr. Chuck Grassley and Mr. Dick Durbin on Thursday is expected to have grim implications for the Indian IT firms, as it aims at curtailing the use the of H-1B and L1 visas, thereby limiting the competitiveness of the offshore vendors.

The bill proposes to alter the H-1B and L1 visa stipulations in such a way that US employers would be prohibited from employing additional H-1B and L-1 guest-workers in case more than 50 per cent of their workers are H-1B and L-1 visa holders. The implementation of the proposal in its current form could cause a big dent in the profitability of the Indian IT services market.

Ranklin Solution buys US-based Cigniti

Hyderabad-based Ranklin Solutions has acquired US-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) firm Cigniti for an undisclosed amount.

Cigniti has around six major ERP installations across the world, and is also an implementation partner for other technologies including Java (Sun Microsystems). The company has presence in the UK, Australia and New Zealand and has over 250 employees on its payroll.

However, the officials of Ranklin Soluitions, neither disclosed the value of the deal nor the turnover of the acquired company, referring a non-disclosure agreement.
