The 30-share index, BSE Sensex was trading in a powerful manner since morning as heavy buying action was witnessed across banking, real estate, capital goods, power, metal and IT stocks.

BSE Midcap and Smallcap index gained 1.96% & 1.44% respectively.

The BSE Sensex today (August 29) opened with a gain of 230.68 points at 14,279.02.

At present (12:54 pm), the 30-share index Sensex stood at 14,513.92, up 465.58 points, after hitting a high of 14,549.57 and a low of 14,279.02.

On the other hand, the broad based Nifty stood at 4,340.50, up 126.50 points, after touching a high of 4,357.40 and a low of 4,230.60.

The overall breadth of the stock market was sharply positive as it witnessed 1,781 progressions as against 659 declinations.

Most active counters on the bourses were ICICI Bank, which gained 6.29%, State Bank Of India surged 6.23%, Reliance Energy zoomed 5.27%, Bharat Heavy Electricals profited 5.04%, HDFC Bank climbed 4.74% and Housing Development Finance Corporation gained 4.54%.

The only loser at the BSE Sensex was Grasim, which lost 0.57% to Rs 1,926.00.
