Budget Aims at Food SecurityIndia is planning to bring legislation on Food Security, posts Finance Minister Pranab Mukharjee while presenting Budget 2010-11 in the Parliament on Friday.

The Union Budget this year is revealed to focus on inclusive growth, insuring food security. The concerns for "aam aadami" are in line with credible measures for improving investment climate, strengthening infrastructure and fiscal consolidation.

The UPA in its election manifesto pledged to enact the Food Security Act, providing 25 kg of wheat or rice per month at Rs 3 per kg to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.

Addressing the agriculture front, Pranab said after Punjab and Haryana, the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa would soon see a green revolution as the ministry has proposed to allocate Rs 400 crore in this respect.

An addition of Rs 300 crore will be divulged for creating 6,000 pulse and oilseed villages in the north-east region of the country.

Moreover, the government will seek private sector assistance to fulfill deficit addressing the problem of acute shortage of storage capacity to store procured food grains.
