BSF keep tight vigil at border in KashmirKathua, Mar 21: Ahead of general elections, Border Security Force (BSF) beefed up security at Indo-Pakistan international border in Jammu following political upheaval in Pakistan.

BSF personnel have been put on high alert and routine patrolling has also been increased along the international border from Paharpur to Akhnoor in Jammu division.

"There are lots of things happening in Pakistan. And its direct impact falls on the work of BSF. We can expect any infiltration from various places during such situation. We have beefed up our security. We hope that if any such activity takes place, then we would be successful in dealing with it at the border area itself." said AK Sharma, Deputy Inspector General, BSF.

Meanwhile, Indian authorities are also stepping up security for political leaders, fearing possible militant attacks as general election approaches, as per Home Ministry officials and police.

More than two million security personnel will be deployed during general elections from April 16 to May 13, for which
714 million people are eligible to vote.

Authorities said they were securing all buildings near rally sites and will have commandos and sniffer dogs when high-profile leaders address large gatherings. (ANI)
