BS III will be applicable by October

BS III will be applicable by OctoberAfter the long confusion over the status of Bharat Stage (BS) III emission norms, the government has finally conveyed the fact that the BSIII norms will be applicable in the India except for top 13 cities that have upgraded to BSIV norms.

According to the official notification dated May 21, the two and three-wheelers will upgrade to the BSIII norms in the 13 major Indian cities that will include Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bangalore.

Moreover, places like Sholapur and Lucknow will also upgrade to BS IV norms for four-wheelers from June 1.

The notification by the government further highlighted the fact that BS-III emission norms shall be applicable in all states and the union territories except national capital region and the cities of Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, including, Secunderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune, Surat, Kanpur, Agra, Sholapur and Lucknow in respect to two and three-wheeler vehicles manufactured on or after October 1, 2010.

Earlier, when the government announced the BSIV application for four-wheelers it had 11 major Indian cities in its list but it announced the addition of Lucknow and Sholapur later.
