Boeing 787 Dreamliners, Still a Distant Dream

Boeing 787 Dreamliners, Still a Distant DreamWith Boeing’s refusal to timely deliver the high sophisticated comfortable, super-efficient jumbo jet- 787-Dreamliner, Air India’s hope have been dashed again.

Boeing 727 Dreamliners are fuel efficient and use only up to 80% of fuels as used by similar aircrafts. Dreamliners have a higher cargo capacity and the higher engineering can make these jets travel at speed of any other aircraft.

In 2006, Air India entered into an agreement with US-based jet company, Boeing to buy total of 68 fuel efficient luxury jet planes. An order of 27 Dreamliners was placed which was scheduled to be delivered in 2009. On request of Boeing, the date was re-scheduled to 2010. But up till now, Boeing is not ready with the aircrafts and is again asking for a re-schedule to set the date for the last quarter of 2011.

Pertaining to delay, now Air India’s authorities are asking for compensation of $840 million. Boeing is not comfortable with the amount of compensation the fuss of turmoil has started over the issue. The disagreement of both the parties over compensation amount has left the matter unsettled and until or unless the matter is sorted out, traveling in those luxury aircrafts would be a distant dream.
