Hong Kong - Police in Hong Kong Friday appealed for help to identify a baby boy found dead near Hong Kong International Airport on Christmas Day.

The clothed body of the boy, aged around one month, was found lying on a rock on coastline by a walker in Chek Lap Kok near the city's busy airport on Thursday afternoon.

A police spokesman said there were no obvious injuries on the body of the infant who was 52 cm long and wearing a white top patterned with stars. A post-mortem is due to be conducted Monday.

Dead bodies from neighbouring mainland China sometimes wash up in Hong Kong waters after drowning or being dumped in southern China's densely populated Pearl River region. (dpa)
