BMC declined MMRDA request

Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) and the BMC declined MMRDA requestBrihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are again in lime light over ambitious road widening project under the Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project (MUIP). The MMRDA has written a letter to BMC requesting it to take charge of 12 roads out of 18 roads.

These roads are main Link Road, SV Road, Sion-Dharavi Link Road, Saki Vihar Road, Mahakali Caves Road, Marol-Maroshi Road, Sahar Airport Road, Dhaku Road (near Seepz), Goregaon-Mulund Link Road, extension of Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road, N S Phadke Marg and Andheri-Kurla Road.

The joint project director (public relations) of MMRDA, Dilip Kawathkar said that MMRDA had written a letter to BMC on September 17 regarding 12 roads but the corporation declined the request of regulatory body. MMRDA actually want to shift the road project to BMC as road maintenance is not a task of regional planning authority.

The project worth Rs 1,400 crore is aimed to widen the roads of the city and it was to be completed in 18 months. But after four years, MMRDA has completed only seven roads of the ambitious road widening project.
