Bike makers on a roll in April

Bike-MakersAll thanks to the high demand in the premium segment in the urban areas and the executive segment in the rural parts of the country, the two-wheeler makers drove through the smooth road in the month of April 2010.

While the market leader Hero Honda faced a flat month, due to a higher base effect and strike at Exide Industries that supplies batteries to Hero Honda, other two-wheeler majors like TVS Motors, Yamaha India and Suzuki Motorcycle had a good time in the last month in the domestic circuit.

However, it is for the 16th time in a row that the two-wheeler market leader Hero Honda reported sales of over 3 lakh units in a month's time. TVS Motors files unit sales of around 1,25,471 units in April 2010 that were up 21.83 per cent over 1,02,985 units sold in the same month in 2009. Similarly, Yamaha's sales were up11% while Suzuki Motorcycle filed a rise on over 50% in the month of April.

Experts believe that the success of the two-wheeler majors have been mainly fuelled by the new launches that have happened in the Indian market in the past couple of months.
