Bharti Wal-Mart to open its first store in Amritsar by next week
Bharti Wal-Mart Pvt. Ltd, the joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and the US retail giant Wal-Mart Stores Inc., is all set to open its first cash-and-carry centre in Amritsar, Punjab.
The company informed that it would open its Wholesale cash-and-carry stores next week, under the brand name of 'BestPrice Modern Wholesale'.
According to an official release, the conventional cash and carry store will occupy 50,000 to 100,000 sq. feet and sell a wide range of fruits and vegetables, groceries, footwear, clothing and other general merchandise.
It should be noted that US retailer and Bharti signed an agreement in 2007, to launch 50:50 joint venture for a new chain of wholesale stores in India to serve small retailers and business owners a wide range of quality products at competitive wholesale prices that help them enhance their businesses and profitability.
The venture plans to open 10-15 cash-and-carry stores in the country by 2015, and expected to employ approximately 5,000 persons.
