Be Careful of Mosquitoes

Every summer, authorities concerned remind us to take preventive measures to remain safe from mosquitoes. Commonly, the mantra is ‘drain, dress and defend’. This summer also, experts ask to avoid mosquitoes by recommending preventative steps.

Mosquito Authority Founder Joey Osborne was of the view, “Mosquitoes are more than just a nuisance. It’s easy to forget they carry diseases like West Nile virus and Chikungunya, but the threat is real”.

Mosquito Authority’s Mosquito Awareness Guide has unveiled that mosquitoes generally attack children because they play and sweat. Mosquitoes love damp and shady areas. Experts said that mosquitoes are deadly because they can carry deadly disease like West Nile and encephalitis.

Mosquitoes can pass on 28 diseases and they can kill more people every year than any other single reason, like heart disease, car accidents and AIDS. Majority of mosquito-related deaths are of children, as their bodies are not well equipped to handle the diseases.

Mosquito-borne diseases’ common symptoms include fever, nausea and vomiting. These factors make mosquitoes-related disease difficult. Steps people should take to avoid mosquitoes include removing standing water from around your home.

When stepping out, wear long pants and long sleeves short. It is best to wear light-colored clothes, as it is being said that some mosquitoes get attracted to dark clothing and one should wear loose-fitting clothes. Always use repellants, but the ones that have been reviewed and approved.
