Balaji Telefilms ends alliance with Star Group
Balaji Telefilms Ltd. has finally decided to end the four-year old association with Star group.
Under the termination agreement, the founders of Balaji Telefilms will buy the entire 25.99% stake held by Asian Broadcasting FZ, LLC, in the Indian media company at Rs 190 per share within eight months, failing which Asian Broadcasting can sell these shares to any non-competing entity.
At the agreed price of Rs 190 per share, which represents a premium of 9.8 per cent over the current market price, ABF's holding would be worth Rs 322.01 crore.
In August 2004, Star Group through an affiliate Asian Broadcasting (ABF) had paid some US$26.5 million for picking 26% stake in Balaji Telefilms.
Besides, Balaji and Star have also agreed to terminate another regional language joint venture agreement signed in April 2007. However, six existing shows produced by Balaji and currently on air with 'Star Plus', would continue on terms mutually agreed upon by the two parties.
