Bajaj Auto to launch four-wheelers based on Renault’s platform

Bajaj-AutoWith the country's second-largest two-wheeler maker planning to launch four-wheels both in the passenger cars and the light CV category it is expected to leverage from the Renault platform for their production.

Notably, the launch is expected to be somewhere around the 2012 period and the platform is currently under development and it will share common aggregates, catering to requirements of passenger vehicles as well as goods carriers. Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto has recently confirmed the fact that the four-wheelers that are expected to make its debut in 2012 will be on a same platform with Renault.

Hence the chances are very bright that the basic structure of the vehicle, the engine, transmission and chassis that the product will posses will be common.

The company has announced in September last year that it will be announcing the launch of three-wheeler under the Bajaj RE brand recently added that the light CV may also fit in the RE brand portfolio while it will not be the case for the passenger vehicles. Moreover, the company added that it will gradually phase out products like GC 1000 and Mega from the market.
