Auto companies expected to post higher profits

Auto-SectorBanking on the high sales that automakers registered in the last fiscal, the auto earnings season which will kick off in the 19th of April as the country's largest two-wheeler maker, Hero Honda is expected to declare its results. Analysts believe the auto companies will post higher sales and profits.

Notably, almost 4-5 automakers are expected to announce a 100% rise in their profits as compared to the last fiscal.

With the backing of factors like easier availability of financing and improved consumer sentiment, the unit sales in the automotive industry grew the fastest in the past six years in the fiscal year ended 31 March 2010 to 1,526,787 units, up 25%.

Decline in raw material costs will be another factor that has also contributed massively to the profits of the automakers. In a typical scenario, raw material costs form as much as form as much as 20% of revenue of the automakers.

Hero Honda, which sold at least four million motorcycles and scooters last fiscal is expected to break the 15,000 crore revenue mark in terms of revenue while is arch rival, Bajaj Auto is expected to settle in for somewhere close to Rs. 12,000 crore figure.
