AT&T to sell new version of S2 later this year
Telecom operator, AT&T announces its plans on Wednesday to sell a version of the S2 "later this year."
The new version of the device will offer connectivity to the operator’s 4G network, in addition to Wi-Fi. However, it is to be noted that the 4G in the case does not imply Long Term Evolution, it refers to HSPA+.
The operator will launch the S2 with specific monthly plans. The 4G Sony S2 will also have seamless access to AT&T's 20,000 Wi-Fi access points if its HSPA+ network is not available.
The device is a sideways clamshell that has two 5.4-inch displays (1024 x 480 pixels), which can be opened to make a larger display with a bar in the middle. The model will have Tegra 2 SoC, set of cameras, a customized user interface as well as support for DLNA media sharing and PlayStation certification.
"With its unprecedented, completely portable form factor, the 'Sony Tablet' S2 offers tablet enthusiasts a convenient and unique entertainment experience. Users will be treated to exceptional graphics and the touch-screen capabilities will enable a fast and efficient website experience," said David Haight, vice president of business development, in a statement.
The company said that the S2 will be launched this fall.
