Damascus - Arab League chief Amr Mussa arrived in Damascus Saturday, where he is expected to discuss with Syrian officials a recent broadcast on Syrian TV where prisoners alleged terrorist ties to Lebanon, Lebanese media reported.

The November 6 broadcast showed prisoners confessing to a September bomb blast in Damascus and claiming links exist between the Lebanese parliamentary majority leader and Fatah al-Islam, a militant, Lebanon-based group with ties to al-Qaeda.

The Arab League agreed Thursday to review the circumstances surrounding those confessions.

The daily Lebanese al-Liwa newspaper on Saturday quoted visiting Assistant Arab League Secretary-General Hisham Youssef as saying that Mussa will raise the issues.

"Yes, we do take these charges very seriously. We will deal with this diplomatically," Youssef was quoted as saying.

The request for the review came from Saad Hariri, head of Lebanon's Future Current Movement party and majority leader in the Lebanese parliament. He has disputed the claims in the broadcast.

Mussa is in Damascus to attend a biennial meeting of Arab culture ministers scheduled for Sunday. The gathering is usually attended by a number of Arab intellectuals. (dpa)
