Amazon offering free digital copy of purchased CDsAmerican online retail giant, Amazon has announced the launch of a new service under which it will offer free digital versions of the CDs that are purchased by the customers through its store.

The company launched the new AutoRip service that will automatically store the digital copies of the CDs in a cloud based account of the customer. The customers will be able to access the stored content through Amazon's Cloud Player on the internet net on their tablet or smartphone using apps.

Steve Boom, the head of digital music at Amazon said in a statement that, "When we picked those 50,000 titles we focused on having a substantial majority of our physical CD sales covered."

The service will be available only in the US market in the beginning and the company has prepared a list of 50,000 CDs that are eligible for AutoRip. The list includes CDs that have been most popular among the Amazon customers during the previous 15 years.

The company said that any customer that purchased a CD from eh company since 1998 will be able to get a free digital copy of the content. The company expects it will create millions of digital copies of CDs for its customers.
