Amazon launches new Amazon.in for Indian customersLeading US-based online retailer, Amazon has announced the launch of online marketplace in India, Amazon. in for the Indian customers.

The website will allow third party sellers to list their products on the site and sell them directly to the customers in the country. The Indian portal will be the country's tenth marketplace allowing users to access a catalogue of 7 million local and imported books and 12,000 titles from movies and TV shows in the beginning. The company has indicated that it is planning to expand to cover mobiles and other electronics devices.

Greg Greeley, VP-international expansion in Amazon said that the site will allow Indian customers to choose form a host of products at cheap prices with reliable delivery. The company already has more than 2 million sellers and over 200 million customers in 9 marketplaces including Canada, Japan, China and the UK.

Amazon will not offer its own products through the portal as India's FDI regulations at present do not allow online multi-brand retailers to sell their own products in the country. The Indian version of the market place already has up 100 vendors across the country and it has already established a 1.5 lakh sqft fulfilment centre in Mumbai to service online orders.
