Alphonso attracting mongo-lovers in MumbaiThe Alphonso mango, which is often described as the king of mangos, is attracting large number of mango lovers in India's financial capital, Mumbai this year.

The mango season lasts only for about 100 days in a year in India, from March till June and factors like weather changes often hit the supply side. Alphonso is grown along the western Konkan coast in the country and costs much more than other verities of mangoes in the country. It has emerged as a status symbol in cities and especially in the city of Mumbai.

The prices of the variety have increased and weather has affected output. The shortfall is set to be filled through different varies of mangoes that are grown in different parts of the country. However, the demand for Alphonso in Mumbai is set to remain strong. In the city, many people insist on eating Alphonsos and do not accept alternatives.

The fan following of Alphonso mango is not so strong in the national capital, Delhi on the other hand, where people accept mangoes of various varies grown in Northern India. Mango exporters now do a thriving trade with several Persian Gulf countries, where more than 6 million Indians are working.
