Akshay Kumar's patriotism continues with 'Gold'- story of free India's first Olympic medal

New Delhi [India], Oct. 22 : Continuing his patriotic fervour post ' Airlift' and ' Rustom,' Akshay Kumar recently announced his upcoming venture 'Gold,' that depicts the story of India's first Olympic medal as a free nation.

The actor took to his Twitter handle to share the first look of the movie and wrote alongside, "Set in 1948, the historic story of India's first Olympic medal as a free nation, #GOLD coming to you on 15th August, 2018!"

Produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment, 'Gold' will be Reema Kagti's third directorial venture, after 'Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.' and 'Talaash,' which will hit the screens on the 2018 Independence Day.

They too took to their respective Twitter handle to share the excitement.

"And here's what we struck...#Gold :-)," wrote Reema.

Farhan on the other hand tweeted, "The story of when India won its first Olympic #Gold medal as an independent nation. Coming 2018.."

"Can't wait to begin work on this # Gold our first association with @akshaykumar Independence Day 2018 @kagtireema," tweeted Riteish.

Going by the history, the Indian hockey team, captained by Kishan Lal, won its first gold at the 1948 London Olympics as an independent country, defeating Great Britain in the final.

The 49-year-old actor, known for his Independence Day releases, will hit the screens with Neeraj Pandey's 'Crack' on August 15, next year.

He is also gearing up for the release of his Tamil debut '2.0,' alongside Thalaiva Rajnikanth, where he will be seen portraying a baddie. (ANI)
