Akki In His Dream Role As ‘Sardar’
Bollywood’s khiladiyon ka khiladi Akshay Kumar always dreamt of playing the character of a ‘Sikh.’
And now his dream takes the real form in Anees Bazmi’s upcoming movie ‘Singh is Kinng,’ which will be released on August 8.
There is a small story behind taking ‘Akshay’ for the role as a Sardar (with Pagdi, beard et al).
Director Bazmi disclosed that the basic idea about the role comes from Akshay’s side.
“I spoke to Akshay’s designer friend Sabina Khan before finalizing Akshay’s look. I was sure Akshay would look excellent, rather a complete Sardar with beard and turban so told her to design a turban just to see how it looks on him. Next day when she came with a turban we tried it on Akshay. He was looking amazing in it. I took some pictures from my mobile just to get other’s views too and everyone loved it. That’s how we decided his look,” he revealed.
Anees called up Akki and narrated the script to him.
Akshay loved the story and got Vipul Shah interested to produce the movie.
At that stage, the character of a ‘Sikh’ had not yet been produced. Anees said, “When I did the character sketch I was sure that it will turn out well. The character is daring and full of life. He is very tough but at the same time he is emotional too. I think all these characteristics can be found in a Sikh. Akshay was extremely happy when I told him that he will be playing a Sikh character.”
The inspirational title ‘Singh Is Kinng’ was borrowed from the back of a truck.
The pairing of Vipul Shah and Akshay Kumar go back to ‘Aankhen’, ‘Waqt’and ‘Namastey London.’ Anees Bazmi and Akshay Kumar date back to ‘No Entry’ and ‘Welcome’.
However, ‘Singh Is Kinng’ is surely their largest and most esteemed project together.
