Aitzaz Ahsan re-detained for 30 days

Islamabad, Feb 2 : Aitzaz Ahsan re-detained for 30 daysJust a day after his release, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Aitzaz Ahsan on Saturday was re-arrested for 30 days.

Ahsan, who was detained for three months under the emergency law of Pakistan, has been placed under house arrest. He was detained soon after he tried to go to assassinated ex-premier Benazir Bhutto’s residence in Sindh.

According to sources, Ahsan was trying to go to Singh to express his condolences to Benazir’s husband Asif Ali Zardari.

Confirming Ahsan’s detention, the Pakistan Interior Ministry has refused to give reasons for his arrest.

Authorities in Pakistan have also issued detention orders for another senior opposition lawyer Tariq Mehmood. He was also placed under house arrest.

“These orders have no legal and constitutional justification. In fact, there is no law and constitution prevailing in the country,” the Dawn quoted Mehmood, as saying.

After his release, Ahsan had asked President Pervez Musharraf to step down.

Addressing the general house meeting of the Lahore High Court Bar Association on Friday, Ahsan had said that terrorism would reduce “by 80 percent” if Musharraf quit. (ANI)
