Aircel to bid for 3G spectrum

Aircel-LogoAircel has announced that it will participate in the auctioning of spectrum for 3G mobile services.

Aircel is considered to be one of the leading telecom providers in India. Maxis Communications of Malaysia holds a majority stake in the company.

According to the Department of Telecom, the auctioning of 3G spectrums will begin on April 9. The operators have to submit their forms for the bidding process by March 19.

The reserve price for the 3G spectrum for across India has been fixed at Rs. 3,500 crore by the government.

For now, the auction will be for three slots only. But very soon, more slots will be made available for the operators, as per the department.

Aircel COO, Gurdeep Singh has provided the confirmation news to the media. He has also told the reporters that the company has tied up with other companies and other parties for funds and there will be a definite bid for 3G spectrum.

But it is not yet clear whether the company will go for the whole country or would bid for some of the selected telecom zones only.
