AIBA Postpones The World Boxing Championship
New Delhi: The World Boxing Championship has been delayed by a week to October 23 because of various obligatory reasons. The championship that was primitively planned from October 17 to November 1 will now be held from October 23 to November 3 in Chicago, USA.
The International Boxing Association (AIBA) stated, “With the requests from many federations, the Local Organizing Committee and CISM, AIBA has decided to accommodate their urgent requests with a new schedule with the president's approval.”
According to Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) General Secretary, Col P K Muralidharan Raja that the AIBA has its Executive Committee conference and the Congress planned on October 21-22 that might also be one of the causes for changing the World Championships’ dates.
All boxers passing on the quarterfinals of the contest would be guaranteed of a berth in the Olympics to be held next year.
The championship is set to be a record-breaking event as more than 623 pugilists from 114 nations will participate in it, exceeding the former mark of 412 boxers from 74 nations in 2005.
