Ahmadinejad says Tehran ready for direct talks with US

Mahmoud AhmadinejadTehran - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Wednesday that Tehran was prepared for more direct talks with the United States, Fars news agency reported.

Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Saeid Jalili met last week with Under Secretary of State William Burns in Geneva, the first direct meeting between the two arch-foes in more than 30 years.

"Iran is ready to hold talks with anybody who wants to have a dialogue with us," Ahmadinejad told reporters after a cabinet session in Tehran.

"Except the Zionist regime (Israel), we have no limit as far as reaching an understanding with the world is concerned," the president added.

The Jalili-Burns meeting was considered by observers as a signal by both sides to ease three decades of diplomatic estrangement. (dpa)
