Advani releases BJP’s ‘vision document’ on infrastructure development

LK AdvaniThe BJP prime ministerial nominee LK Advani Tuesday released the party's 'vision document' on infrastructure development in India, promising that if the BJP-led led NDA - National Democratic Alliance - comes into power, the national highways will be developed swiftly, at 20 kilometers a day!

Unveiling a set of grand promises with regard to boosting the country's infrastructure, the vision document also talks of providing metalled-road links to all towns and villages, and reducing road-accident deaths 50 percent.

Blaming the Congress-led UPA - United Progressive Alliance - for "prolonged neglect and misrule," Advani said: "In the first 50 years of independence, India built highways at the rate of 11 km per year. The NDA government between 1998 and 2004 achieved a rate of 11 km per day. The rate has dropped to less than 5 km per day during the United Progressive Alliance rule."

In addition to road-building related promises, the vision document also makes a mention of providing reasonably-priced incessant electricity supply to all homes, farms and industries, and water to every home and farm. It talks about undertaking 100 infrastructure development projects in diverse sectors.

In his post-document-release conversation with reporters, Advani said that his party feels that India surely deserves better physical and social infrastructure, in order to make the 21st century "India's century!"
