Actor Mohan Lal joins TA

MohanlalFamous Malayalam film actor Mohan Lal, on Thursday formally joined the Territorial Army (TA) in the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Earlier in late 2008, veteran cricketer Kapil Dev had also joined the TA.

Mohan Lal, a multitalented actor, clearly looked anxious and scared by the event as he marched up in uniform to be piped. He will be affiliated with the Kerala-based 122 Inf Bn (TA) MADRAS called the "Kannur terriers".

While speaking on this occasion, the actor said: "It is an amazing moment. My family is with me in one of the best moments of my life."

The South Indian actor feels that the olive green uniform of the Indian Army is the most powerful figure of service to the country.

"They asked me to be the brand ambassador of the Territorial Army. So it a great honour for me," said Lal.

The Malayalam superstar has won a number of honors to his name, including four national awards, and is a Padmashree awardee. His portrayals of an army officer in movies like Kirti Chakra and Kurukshetra are seen as marvelous and rational.

As part of his training to portray the job, he shared the realities of army people in real conflict zone near Drass on the line of control.

Moreover, the actor had also promised to come for the Prime Minister's Territorial Army Day parade scheduled in October later this year.
