ACP Rajbir murder suspect in hospital

ACP Rajbir SinghGurgaon, Mar 29: The self-confessed suspect in the murder of Delhi Police Assistant Commissioner and encounter specialist Rajbir Singh, Vijay Bhardwaj, was admitted to a Gurgaon hospital on Saturday after he complained of chest pain, the police said.

“Bhardwaj was admitted to the Gurgaon Civil Hospital after he developed chest pain,” a police official said.

Earlier Bhardwaj, a real estate agent, confessed to the police that he had shot Singh at his Sector-14 office on Monday night. He said he pumped two bullets into Singh’s head with a .32 bore revolver, following a row over money. He is presently in Gurgaon Police custody.

The Police Commissioner said Bhardwaj had allegedly procured the revolver three days ago from Singh and used the weapon to kill him.

Forty-eight-year-old Singh was attached with the Special Operations Squad and had been provided 'Z' category security cover.

A winner of five medals, including the President's Police Medal for Gallantry, Singh was involved in investigations related to the Parliament and Red Fort attack cases.

He was transferred from the Crime Branch to Delhi Armed Police after allegations of his involvement in an illegal land deal last year. There were also allegations of his links with drug traffickers and land mafia.

The vigilance probe, however, gave him a clean chit and he returned to head the Special Operations Squad in November last year. (ANI)
