93 Mentally Sick Persons Sent To IMHThe Institute of Mental Health admitted 93 mentally sick people who were identified by the Chennai Corporation and treated by the Communicable Diseases Hospital.

While lecturing at a function organized at the Communicable Diseases Hospital at Tondiarpet, Mayor M. Subramanian stated, "The Corporation will continue to locate abandoned persons who are mentally ill and take measures to rehabilitate them."

The civic body has counted 420 individuals with mental disease on the road sides and has gathered up 152 pics of such mentally ill persons who had been logged at the Communicable Diseases Hospital in Tondiarpet.

Mr. Subramanian said that about 12 families were able to trace their family members who lost because of mild mental illness.

The civic body has sent 20 persons among those photoed to old age homes as they were found to have sickness relating to old age.

The Communicable Diseases Hospital has retained 24 of the people for further medical treatment as it found the treatment essential before sending them to the Institute of Mental Health.

3 patients having amputated limbs were sent to the government hospital.

Mr. Subramanian said that the Corp had put up particulars of abandoned, mentally sick people in the city on its internet site and the data was being used by individuals to find the mentally ill.

Mr. R. Sathianathan, Director of Institute of Mental Health said, "We have transferred 93 patients under the special provisions of the Indian Mental Health Act. We will monitor them for three months and a panel of psychiatrists would take decision on treatment." (With Inputs from Agencies)
