3 new cases registered in CWG scam

CBIThe Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday registered three more cases against the wrongdoers in the controversial CWG scam. These cases were against eight government officials.

Six of them belonged to the New Delhi Municipal Corporation while the rest came from Central Public Works Department and private firms. All these people were allegedly involved in awarding illegal contracts during the games to private firms.

During the investigation, close to 20 raids took place across Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. Houses and offices of the people involved along with firms- Raja Aedari Consultants Pvt Ltd, Simplex Projects Ltd, and China Railway Shisiju Group Corporation, were raided.

A senior official of CBI said that it was through these raids that the unearthing of several incriminating documents was done. He also claimed that more such raids are going to happen.

The CBI said that all the officials and the executives had misused the power and position. The contracts were for upgradation along with renovation of Shivaji and Talkatora Stadium at exorbitant rates.

What is encouraging is that CBI has taken this step beyond the Organising Committee and raided the premises of six NDMC officials.
