Yamaha launches Ray-Z model scooter in IndiaYamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd, the Indian unit of the Japanese automaker, has announced the launch of its new 'Ray Z' scooter model in the Indian market.

The company also announced the launch of two new models in the SZ series aimed at the Indian customers at an event in Goa on Friday. The company is targeting male users in the age group of 16-22 years in the country with the new 'Ray Z' scooter and will expand the Z-series of motor vehicles from the company.

The Ray Z will sell along with the Yamaha Ray, which was launched in September in the previous year aimed at women in the country. The new model has a sporty look with a smoked-finish visor and it also features aluminium rear wing-shaped tandem rider grab-bars, a new instrument panel with a carbon fibre patterned background, a carbon fibre patterned seat cover material, and dynamic colouring and graphics.

Hiroyuki Suzuki, CEO & MD, India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd said that the company has set up a manufacturing plant in Chennai with an investment of Rs 1,500 crore. The plant is expected to begin production in the second half of 2013. Yamaha Motor India is looking to sell 1 million units by 2014 and increase it to 2 million by 2016. It expects India to become one of its top five markets by the year 2016.
