The World Bank (WB) team arrived on Thursday on its three-day visit to assess the plans for Mumbai Urban Transport Project phase 2.

They will review a survey conducted by Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) in September, to gauge the number of commuters travelling in local trains. The WB had asked MRVC to conduct this survey to understand the effectiveness of newer train services and how well the funds were used for MUTP phase I. MRVC however, is still not ready with the final report on the survey.

In September, MRVC with the help of an external agency, carried out a survey to gauge the number of commuters travelling in local trains on Western, Central and Harbour lines during peak hours. The private research agency had submitted a report nearly a month back but MRVC returned it saying that the report lacked certain details. “A draft report has already been submitted and the final report will be submitted soon,” said chief operations manager of MRVC, Prakash Rao Vazalwar.
