A wooden sea monster lifted from sea in southern Sweden: Reports

According to reports, on Tuesday, a wooden sea monster with ears similar to that of a lionand a jaw like a crocodile's was lifted from the Baltic sea in southern Sweden. It emerged from the sea after lying on floor of the ocean for over half a century.

It is said to be nearly 660lbs (300kg) and was lying at the front part of a boat or ship of a 15th-century Danish warship. This week, it was lifted from the coast of Ronneby in southern Sweden by divers who brought up treasures from the destruction of the 'Gribshunden'.

It is believed that in 1495, the Gribshunden sunk following it caught fire while traveling from Copenhagen to Kalmar on east coast of Sweden. The Gribshunden was a belonging of Danish King John.

The hull was extensively damaged, however the remaining parts of it make it among the best preserved wrecks that are more or less from the same period of the Santa Maria, Christopher Columbus' flagship.

According to Johan Ronnby, professor of marine archaeology at Sodertorn University, Christopher Columbus and Leonardo da Vinci were alive, when last time, it saw the world.

According to Ronnby, "It's a monster. It's a sea monster and we have to discuss what kind of animal it is. I think it's some kind of fantasy animal - a dragon with lion ears and crocodile-like mouth. I'm amazed". He added that they were aware that it should be an extraordinary figure, however it was more than what they had expected. He said that the figure is unique in the world.
